We have some clear priorities: building our economy, strengthening our skills, improving our transport connections, and of course, delivering the 2025 City of Culture and its legacy for the District. These ambitions are built on a growing reputation. Our economy is developing, built on our entrepreneurial heritage and a population with shared ambitions for a better future. Our Adult Services have a national reputation, with effective integration with health; our partnerships are positive, and our communities have come together around a renewed common purpose. You will inherit a talented team, with a clear direction, cross-party support and the business, community and third sector aligned behind you.

We know we face challenges. Our Children’s Services must improve, that’s why we chose to create our Children and Families Trust, going live on 1st April. We have to secure better train links – and will continue to lobby for Bradford’s inclusion in Northern Powerhouse Rail. We are determined to protect our communities from the worst ravages of challenging economic times, so that we can really reap the dividend of the City of Culture.  And like everyone, we need more financial investment and face the ongoing challenge of achieving more for less.  As the fifth largest metropolitan authority in England, our sheer size presents a constant challenge to delivery and makes connecting all our places together as one District a challenge in itself.

Chief Executive

Our new Chief Executive will have a feel for what makes us Bradford. They’ll be able to point to their impact as an experienced senior leader, most likely in local government, where they’ve harnessed energies and passions to deliver meaningful change to a place.  They’ll bring all great leadership entails; values, judgement, relationships, intellectual dexterity, political nous, adaptability, a people focus, influence, drive, tenacity, resilience and so much more.    Mostly they’ll want this role for the impact they can have for and with others, rather than for themselves, although they will know the critical role they can play across the District and nationally.  Bradford can be tough, so we ideally want someone who’s earnt their stripes either as a Chief Executive or at scale. Our new Chief Executive will choose Bradford for what makes us tick. And when they come, they’ll find a place that will get under their skin and into their heart.
